This loot generator rolls a D&D 5e hoard scaled for CR 0-4 encounters, such as a modest pile of coin beside a handful of minor trinkets. Reroll for a new hoard or open the example below to see the exact draw.

What a CR 0-4 Hoard Contains

At this tier the generator keeps treasure small and legible: a modest pile of copper, silver, and a little gold, a trinket or two worth a few gold pieces each, and only occasionally a gem or art object. Magic items are rare at CR 0-4 and, when one appears, it is a common or uncommon piece or a consumable such as a potion or scroll rather than a permanent weapon.

Expect totals in the tens of gold. That matches the Loot by Level baseline for tier 1, where a 100 gp hoard feels like a windfall and each character earns a first permanent uncommon item around level 3 or 4, not in the first session.

When to Use It

Roll this for the goblin warren, the bandit lookout post, the haunted cellar, or any fight a party of levels 1 to 4 is expected to win. Because the numbers stay small, you can hand out a hoard after every second or third encounter without breaking the early economy, and a healing potion in the pile is worth more to a level 2 party than a bag of gold.

If a level-1 party stumbles into something much older or richer, use the mid-level hoard page instead and let the size of the haul be part of the story.

Questions

What does a CR 0-4 hoard usually contain?
Mostly coin with occasional minor trinkets or a low-value valuable. Magic items are rare at this tier, matching the DMG treasure tables for early encounters.
How is this different from the plain loot generator?
This page presets the CR band to 0-4, so it always rolls for the lowest treasure tier. Change the CR band control on the page to reach a different tier.
