Dungeon Crawl Generator

Generate an interconnected delve with optional side rooms and party-scaled 2024 encounters.

About This Dungeon Crawl Generator

This D&D 5e dungeon crawl generator builds a complete text-described delve in one click: a required route from entrance to boss, optional side rooms that branch and rejoin, a premise, a boss-tied antagonist, and enough structured material to run each room. Every exit names the room it reaches, and a shared seed link recreates the same topology and contents.

Pick a party level (1 to 20), party size (3 to 6), length, and one of 8 dungeon types or leave the environment random. Short crawls contain 5 to 6 rooms, Medium 8 to 9, and Long 11 to 12. Six content themes (undead, cult, beasts, aberrant, fiends, and dragon) carry through room details, inhabitants, and tactics instead of stopping at the dungeon name.

Combat rooms use the official 2024 Low, Moderate, and High per-encounter XP budgets on a rising curve toward the boss. Toggle Deadly to raise the final encounter above the normal High ceiling.

Tips for Using a Generated Dungeon Crawl

  • Follow Main Path exits to move directly from the entrance to the boss. Side Path exits lead to optional rewards, hazards, and lore before rejoining the required route.
  • Every combat and boss room shows its 2024 encounter difficulty, target XP, actual XP, creature roles, and tactical notes.
  • Trap, treasure, and puzzle rooms keep their mechanical details in labeled fields, including puzzle clues, solutions, failure consequences, checks, coins, valuables, and magic items.
  • Toggle Deadly only when your party is well-equipped or you want a real chance of a hard-fought, high-stakes finale; leave it off for a standard climactic boss fight.
  • Share the page URL after generating; the seed in the link rebuilds the identical dungeon, rooms, creatures, and antagonist included.

Common Questions

Is this dungeon crawl generator free?
Yes. Every tool on Tools and Taverns is free, with no account, signup, or generation limit.
How long is a dungeon?
Length controls room count: Short generates 5 to 6 rooms, Medium 8 to 9, and Long 11 to 12, always starting with an entrance and ending with exactly one boss room.
What does Deadly do?
It raises the boss encounter's XP target above the party's normal High budget for a tougher, higher-stakes final fight. Every other room is unaffected.
Are the encounters actually balanced?
Each combat uses the official 2024 per-character encounter budget for your chosen party level and size. Non-boss fights rise from Low toward Moderate, the standard boss uses the High ceiling, and creature count plus individual CR are bounded to avoid misleading XP-only compositions.
Does it generate a dungeon map?
It generates text topology rather than a coordinate or battle map. Every room lists structured Main Path or Side Path connections and names the room each exit reaches, so the route can be run without implying a visual floor plan.
How do I get the same dungeon back later?
Every dungeon has a seed that is written into the page URL after generating, alongside the level, size, length, and Deadly setting used. Copy the link (or use the Share button) and opening it recreates the identical dungeon.
