About the Downtime Planner

This free D&D 5e downtime planner turns the weeks between adventures into a concrete plan and then resolves it. You set a budget of workweeks and gold, add downtime activities to a board, split your time and coin across them, and the tool rolls each one out into an in-character log you can drop straight into a session. It covers all 13 downtime activities from Xanathar's Guide to Everything, from Carousing and Crime to Crafting, Research, and Training.

The planner keeps the bookkeeping honest so you do not have to. A running tally shows how many workweeks and how much gold each plan uses against your budget, and it flags you the moment a plan overspends. An optional character profile (level, Persuasion, Investigation) sharpens the skill-based outcomes. When you like a result, pin it to the Session Notebook, which is saved locally in your browser with no account or signup required.

Tips for Planning Downtime

Set the budget before you add anything. A stretch of downtime is defined by how many workweeks and how much gold the party actually has; the board is only as useful as those two numbers are honest.
Fill in the character profile for skill-based activities. Carousing, Research, and Crime lean on Persuasion or Investigation, so entering your real bonuses (or at least your level) makes the resolved outcomes match your table.
Mix earners with spenders. Pair a Work or Gambling week against a Crafting or Training stretch so the plan reads like a believable month, not a single errand repeated.
Treat a complication as a hook, not a punishment. When a resolved activity throws one, hand it to the party as the seed of a side quest instead of erasing it.
