About the Bastion Planner

The Bastion Planner tracks a D&D 2024 character's Bastion: how many special facility slots their level allows, which facilities fill those slots, defenders, a stash of gold and items, and a turn-by-turn history. Every character of level 5 or higher who has a Bastion gets an entry in your roster, and each one is scoped to your active Session Notebook campaign so a multi-campaign table keeps its Bastions separate.

Facility slots grow with level: zero below level 5, then 2, 4, 5, and 6 special slots at levels 5, 9, 13, and 17. The slot counter shows how many special facilities are filled against that allowance and warns you the moment you go over, without ever deleting or locking a facility to force you back under the limit. Pick a facility from the original homebrew library to fill a slot quickly, or add a blank custom facility and fill in the details yourself.

Homebrew Facility Examples

A few of the original facilities in the built-in homebrew library. Pick any of these from the Bastion Planner and rewrite them to fit your game.

Tideglass ConservatoryRoomy, suggested order: Research
  • A glass-walled loft that traps storm light in jars of seawater; burning a jar grants advance warning of next turn's weather.

Cinderforge AnnexVast, suggested order: Craft
  • A second furnace room built onto the main forge; doubling the fuel spent this turn doubles the output of one crafted order.

Wandering PostRoomy, suggested order: Recruit
  • A stable of trained messenger birds and a standing notice board; speeds the search for a hireling willing to join the bastion.

Tips for Running a Bastion

  • Set the character level first. The slot counter and the over-limit warning both depend on it, so an accurate level keeps the rest of the roster honest.
  • Use the homebrew library for a quick start, then rename and rewrite the effect to fit your own Bastion. Every entry is original and meant to be a starting point, not a fixed rule.
  • Keep the stash and defenders current between sessions so a turn result (once you start taking turns) reflects what the Bastion actually has on hand.
  • A Bastion over its slot limit is not broken. The warning is a nudge to reassign or retire a facility when you are ready, not a block on play.

Common Questions

Is the Bastion Planner free?
Yes. Every tool on Tools and Taverns is free, with no account, signup, or generation limit. The Bastion Planner is currently in beta while the turn flow and sharing features round out.
How many facility slots does my Bastion get?
Zero below character level 5, then 2 slots at level 5, 4 at level 9, 5 at level 13, and 6 at level 17. Only special facilities count against this limit; basic facilities do not.
What happens if I go over my facility slot limit?
The slot counter shows a warning, but nothing is deleted or disabled. This is common when a character loses a level bonus or when a facility is added ahead of a level up.
Where is my Bastion data saved?
Locally in your browser, scoped to your active Session Notebook campaign. There is no account and nothing is stored on a server, so your roster stays on the device where you created it and survives a page reload.
Can I use more than one campaign?
Yes. Switching the active campaign in the Session Notebook shows only that campaign's Bastions; each campaign keeps its own separate roster.
