About the Session Dashboard
The Session Dashboard is a free workspace for running a D&D 5e game: pin the generators and tools you reach for most and lay them out side by side on one screen. Instead of juggling browser tabs mid-combat, you keep the encounter builder, the initiative tracker, and an NPC on hand generator together, all visible at once while you run the table.
Pin panels from a growing set of tools: the Encounter, NPC, Shop, Loot, and Trap generators for content on the fly, the Initiative Tracker and Dice Roller for combat, the Rules Reference for quick lookups, the Downtime Planner for between-session activity, and the Character Traits and Character Backstory generators for improvised NPCs. Add or remove a panel any time; your layout is saved in your browser, so it is waiting for you when you come back.
Tips for Building Your Dashboard
- Pin for the phase you are in: an Encounter, Initiative, and Dice Roller layout for combat night, or NPC, Shop, and Loot when the party is in town.
- Keep the Initiative Tracker pinned every session; it is the one panel you will touch on almost every turn, so give it a spot you never have to scroll to find.
- Use the Rules Reference panel to settle a call without breaking the scene, then jump straight back to the generator next to it.
- Your layout lives in this browser only, with no account and no sync. Rebuild it on a new device or after clearing site data, and consider a screenshot if you want a record of a setup you like.

Common Questions
- Is the Session Dashboard free?
- Yes. Every tool on Tools and Taverns is free, with no account, signup, or generation limit.
- Which tools can I pin to the dashboard?
- The Encounter, NPC, Shop, Loot, and Trap generators, the Initiative Tracker, the Dice Roller, the Rules Reference, the Downtime Planner, and the Character Traits and Character Backstory generators. Click Add generator and pick any that are not already pinned.
- Is my layout saved?
- Yes, but only in the browser you are using. The pinned panels and their order are stored locally on your device, with no account and no cloud sync, so a different browser or device starts fresh and clearing site data resets it.
- How do I remove a panel?
- Each pinned panel has an X in its corner; click it to unpin that tool. The rest of your layout stays exactly as it was, and you can add the panel back later from the Add generator menu.
- Does each panel still work like the full generator?
- Yes. A pinned panel is the same generator you would use on its own page, with its own controls, so you can roll an encounter or generate an NPC right inside the dashboard.
