Settlement Generator

Generate a fully detailed settlement with buildings, NPCs, weather, and a local pantheon. Free, seeded, and shareable: one link rebuilds the whole town.

About This Settlement Generator

This free D&D 5e settlement generator builds a named hamlet, village, town, or city in one click, complete with population, government, notable features, current weather, a local pantheon, and a roster of buildings, each with a named, statted owner.

There are 80 starting configurations (4 sizes, 5 climates, 4 seasons), and the depth scales with size: the example city below arrived with 19 buildings and a pantheon of 4 deities in a single roll. Every settlement is seeded, so one link recreates the whole place, buildings and all.

Example Settlements

Two real results, exactly as the generator produced them. Each link rebuilds the settlement from its seed.

Tips for Using Generated Settlements

  • Generate the settlement first, then drill into any building with the Building Generator when the party walks through its door.
  • The weather roll matches your chosen climate and season; use it as the opening description of the session.
  • Population and government give you instant answers when players ask who is in charge.
  • Pin the settlement to the Session Notebook and reopen the identical town next week from its seed link.

Common Questions

Is this settlement generator free?
Yes. Every tool on Tools and Taverns is free, with no account, signup, or generation limit.
What does a generated settlement include?
A name, size, population, government, notable features, current weather for your chosen climate and season, a local pantheon, and a roster of buildings (taverns, shops, temples, and more), each with a named owner who has a full stat block.
What sizes can it generate?
Hamlets, villages, towns, and cities. Larger settlements roll more buildings, bigger populations, and a larger pantheon.
How do I get the same settlement back later?
Every settlement has a seed that is written into the page URL after generating. Copy the link (or use the Share button) and opening it rebuilds the identical settlement, including its buildings and pantheon.
Can I use generated settlements in published or streamed games?
Yes. Generated results are yours to use in home games, streams, and published work; no attribution required.
