What is waiting beyond the horizon?

Choose a climate and season, then generate a forecast with temperature, wind, precipitation, and any rules-relevant hazards.

About This Weather Generator

This free D&D 5e weather generator rolls a complete forecast in one click: temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, wind, precipitation, and the chance a storm actually arrives, expressed as a d6 roll you can make at the table. Every result is seeded, so you can share a link that recreates the exact same weather.

Forecasts are built from 5 climates crossed with 4 seasons, 20 distinct weather profiles modeled on the Dungeon Master's Guide weather rules, with wind color drawn from 18 hand-picked adjectives. When a roll turns dangerous, the generator flags the four conditions that carry mechanical weight in 5e: extreme cold, extreme heat, strong wind, and heavy precipitation.

Example Forecasts

Three real results, exactly as the generator produced them. Each link recreates that forecast from its seed.

  • Temperature: -16 F° (-26 C°). Wind: none. Precipitation: heavy snow.
  • Chance of precipitation: roll 1d6, DC 3.
  • Flagged conditions: Extreme Cold and Heavy Precipitation, the DMG hazards that force Constitution saves and obscure vision.

Tips for Using Generated Weather

  • Roll a week of weather during prep: generate seven forecasts, pin the keepers to the Session Notebook, and reveal one per in-game day.
  • Treat the flags as your cue to open the DMG hazard rules; an unflagged forecast is safe to narrate as pure color.
  • Match the climate to the region the party is crossing (dry for deserts, polar for the frozen north, tropical for jungle coasts) and keep the season in step with your campaign calendar.
  • Share the page URL after generating; the seed in the link reproduces the identical forecast for anyone who opens it.

Common Questions

Is this weather generator free?
Yes. Every tool on Tools and Taverns is free, with no account, signup, or generation limit.
Does weather actually matter mechanically in D&D 5e?
Four conditions do: extreme cold, extreme heat, strong wind, and heavy precipitation. Under the DMG weather rules they impose Constitution saves, disadvantage on ranged attacks, or obscured vision. The generator flags exactly those four whenever a forecast crosses the line.
How do I get the same weather back later?
Every forecast has a seed that is written into the page URL after generating. Copy the link (or use the Share button) and opening it recreates the identical weather.
Which climate should I pick for my region?
Tropical for jungles and warm coasts, moderate for classic temperate farmland, continental for inland plains with hot summers and cold winters, polar for tundra and the far north, and dry for deserts and badlands.
Does it work with the 2024 rules revision?
Yes. Weather hazards work the same way under the 2014 and 2024 rules, so the forecast and its flagged conditions read identically at either table.
