What a Dragon Hoard Contains
The Dragon Lair source sorts the treasure the way a dragon would: coin and valuables heaped in a shallow depression in the stone, grouped loosely by material, with the warmth in the air a reminder that the owner is not far. On the default CR 5-10 band that means gold-heavy coin, gems and art objects a dragon would bother to keep, and a real chance at a magic item; the example draw below turned up a Ring of Water Walking.
Raise the CR band on the page for an adult or ancient dragon and the same source scales into the thousands or tens of thousands of gold, with rare and very rare items appearing as the tier allows.
When to Use It
Roll this when the party is actually going to fight, rob, or bargain with a dragon, and roll it before the session: a dragon's hoard is usually the most scrutinized treasure in a campaign, and having the exact contents pinned in the notebook saves a mid-fight scramble.
A dragon also notices what is missing. If the party takes a single gem and leaves, the seeded link lets you reopen the identical hoard later and know precisely what was stolen.
