Tavern Menu Generator

Generate a D&D 5e tavern menu with food, drink, and atmosphere.

About This Tavern Menu Generator

This free D&D 5e tavern menu generator sets the whole scene in one click: a tavern name, an exterior description as the party walks up, the room as they step inside, and a full menu of food and drink priced in copper, silver, and gold. Every result is seeded, so you can share a link that recreates the exact same tavern.

Menus draw from 125 hand-written food and drink items across 8 settings, from dockside taverns to halfling village inns, with 80 tavern names and a dedicated pool of exterior and entrance descriptions for every one of the 32 setting and quality combinations. Each menu guarantees at least one food and one drink, marks exactly one house special, and may run out of an item or two, just like a real kitchen.

Example Taverns

Three real results, exactly as the generator produced them, condensed for length. Each link recreates the full tavern and menu from its seed.

  • House special: hard cheese and dark bread, 2 sp.

Tips for Running Generated Taverns

  • Generate before the party opens the door: the exterior line is written to be read aloud as they approach, the entrance line as they step in.
  • Use the house special as a free conversation starter; the cook is proud of it, the regulars order it, and asking about it opens a scene.
  • Out-of-stock items are roleplay fuel: why did the chowder run out, and who bought the last of it?
  • Flip on Story View to get the result as one narrated paragraph, and use the Tone dropdown to push it gritty or whimsical.
  • Share the page URL after generating; the seed in the link reproduces the identical tavern for anyone who opens it.

Common Questions

Is this tavern menu generator free?
Yes. Every tool on Tools and Taverns is free, with no account, signup, or generation limit.
How much should food and drink cost in D&D 5e?
The Player's Handbook prices a mug of ale at 4 cp and meals from 3 cp (squalid) up to 2 gp or more (aristocratic). The generator follows that curve by quality tier: seedy menus run 1 to 5 cp per item, common 3 cp to 3 sp, fine 2 sp to 2 gp, and noble 2 to 8 gp.
How do I get the same tavern back later?
Every tavern has a seed that is written into the page URL after generating. Copy the link (or use the Share button) and opening it recreates the identical name, descriptions, and menu.
Can I use generated taverns in my campaign, stream, or published adventure?
Yes. Generated results are yours to use in home games, streams, and published work; no attribution required.
What settings and qualities can I pick?
Eight settings (roadside inn, dockside tavern, city tavern, underground, noble's hall, forest outpost, desert oasis, and halfling village inn) crossed with four quality tiers (seedy, common, fine, and noble). Quality changes the prices, the length of the menu, and how the place is described.
